When visiting Gaylord, there are several interesting places to check out. Gaylord’s City Elk Park offers the unique opportunity to see elk in a large, natural habitat. Aspen Park offers paths through the woods that can be used for a leisurely stroll or cross-country skiing during the winter. Families may like to stop by the Call of the Wild Museum or to pick some blueberries at the Up North Blueberry Farm. Other popular destinations include the Otsego County Historical Museum and the Gaylord Area Council for the Arts.

The climate in Gaylord features large seasonal temperature differences, and the winter season is cold and snowy. In fact, the community receives abundant snowfall due to its location in the center of the Northern Michigan snowbelt, and average accumulation totals about 143 inches per year. Average high temperatures only reach about 25 degrees Fahrenheit during January, so it is essential that residents prepare for the season in advance. A reliable gas or electric furnace is crucial, especially because significant snowfall could leave residents stranded indoors for days at a time.

While snowshoeing and cross-country skiing may be popular in Gaylord during the winter, the warm temperatures make golf a top pastime during the summer months.
